Purpose

XML (eXtensible Mark-up Language) and JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) are both formats for storing structured data

Both are text formats - Data is stored as a text file

Both are widely used for storing settings information app data in software applications

XML is based on mark-up language

JSON is based on Javascript

Requirements

You are required to understand the purposes of and be able to compare XML and JSON's relative advantages

You are NOT required to learn the syntax or create files of either type
