Happens in liquids and gases

Particles can move from place to place

Convection occurs when particles with lots of heat energy in a liquid or gas move and take the place of particles with less heat energy

Heat energy is transfered to hot places to cool places through convection

Liquids and Gases expand when heated because the particles move faster when heated than they do when they're cold

This means the particles take up more volume because the gap between the particles widen while the particles themselves stay the same size

The liquids and gases are less dense when heated than the liquids and gases in cool areas so it rises into the cool areas

The denser cold liquid or gas falls into the warm areas
