- Areliability
- Bvalidity
- Cconceptualization
- Doperationalization
16Measurement theory is based on the idea that an empirical measure of a concept reflects:
- AThe true or ideal construct or an absolutely perfect measure of it
- BSystematic errors or biases (non-random)
- CRandom errors, unavoidable error (chance errors)
- DX = T+S+R, where X is the empirical indicator or observation, T is the true or ideal construct, S is the systematic errors or biases, and R is the random unavoidable errors.
17The test-retest method, split-half method, internal consistence reliability, using established measures, and research-worker reliability (inter-rater reliability) are all ways to:
- Acreate reliable measures
- Bcreate valid measures
- Ccreate both reliable and valid measures
- Dimprove reliability but lower validity
18In this method, the researchers split the instrument into two equal halves and look for correlations between the groups in the two halves. It is similar to the test-retest method, used when you don't have enough money/resources for a repeated study.
