Frage Antworten
Chemical weathering = Minerals changed due to chemical reaction. They wash away and the rock is weathered.
Solution Some minerals and rocks dissolve in water. Just like table salt, rock salt dissolves in water, making it vulnerable to solution whenever it rains.
Solution Equation CaCO3 + H2O + CO2 ---> Ca(HCO3)2 [carbonic acid] --> [calcium bicarbonate]
Carbonation Calcium carbonate become calcium bicarbonate which washes away. Rainwater is slightly acidic. Limestone is prone if it has lots of cracks.
Carbonation 1) Rain picks up CO2.
Carbonation 2) Becomes weak carbonic acid.
Carbonation 3) Reacts with calcium carbonate.
Carbonation 4) Becomes calcium bicarbonate, which washes away.
Example Granite: feldspar mineral reacts to make kaolin (china)
