- 1Define topologyTopology is the layout of a network, there are three commonly used topolgies
- 2Name the advantages and disadvantages of the bus network topologyAdvantages:
1. easy to set up
2. cheap
Disadvantages:
1. problems with the back bone can bring the whole network down
2. Limited distance can be covered
3. Many data collisions slow the network down - 3Name the advantages and disadvantages of the star network topologyAdvantages:
1. robust - problems with one connection will not affect the whole network.
2. fewer data collision than bus so it's faster
Disadvantages:
1. needs more expertise to maintain
2. can be expensive to set up because more building work involved and more network hardware and software needed
- 4Name the advantages and disadvantages of the ring network topologyAdvantages:
1. very fast - no collisions because traffic is one way
Disadvantages:
1. problems with the backbone can bring the whole network down
2. data passes through every node - this makes the network vulnerable to malfunctions
