    The US wants to increase their interest at 日本 . 1837 and 1846 were the Firsts Attempts Also Britain sent a mission at 1818 Commodore arrived at 1853 with "Pacific" methods (Actually when it refers to the US, 4 warships are really pacific)

    日本人´s response
    Tokugawa Shogunate (Keiki) agreed and sign the Treaty of Kanagawa (March 1854) which opened up two 日本´s ports to the US This bt the pressure of China´s defeat at Opium War (1839-42) against the British. In 1854 the 日本人´s government signed the Treaty of Amity and Commerce w/ the US. This was opposed by the Imperial Court (Nationalist) by the idea of "Repealing the Barbarians"

    日本 sign similar treaties with France, Britain, and Russia, all in unequal condition Provoked a nationalism resentment feeling between the 日本人 Ended with the 日本 seclusion that lasted 200 years Ended with the Shogunate era Led to the rapid emergence of 日本 as a regional and international power
