    What were you doing before English class?  I was attending a different class, Occupational health I was in other class I was having/eating breakfast  I was having a job interview  I was preparing the breakfast for my family

    What were they/the girls doing?
    They were listening to music  Were they singing?  No, they weren't singing, they were listening to music What kind of music were they listening?  They were listening pop/rock/romantic/classic

      It can also be used to describe something that was happening continuously in the past when another action interrupted it.    I was making dinner when she arrived.  I was watching my favorite series when he called me.  I was getting over my ex when he came looking for me.   what was happening at a precise time in the past.  Example: At 6 o’clock, I was eating dinner./ I was eating dinner at 6 o´clock  It can also refer to a habitual action in the past. Example: She was talking constantly in class in those days.
