Word Processing Word processing packages are used to produce documents containing text such as letters, reports, etc.
Templates Stored master document with a predefined layout which can be used as a basis for other documents – e.g. pre-defined letter for sending information to customers.
Mail Merge Incorporating data automatically from a store into an outline document linked to fields. For example creating a set of letters informing customers of the new reward scheme.
Macros A macro is a stored list of instructions (which is used to automate a task, code, program) for example adding a teachers signature to a letter.
Desktop Publishing Software Desktop publishing software is used to produce documents consisting of more than just text. For example, the documents can contain artwork such as photographs, diagrams, clipart, cartoons, graphs as well as text.
Presentation Software Presentation software is not just restricted to viewing a series of slides containing content. You can actually build multimedia applications.
Animated Transitions The is when you give an entry effect (such as fading) when you move from one slide to another.
Importing Files The ability of a piece of software to read and use the data produced by a different piece of software.
Exporting Files Transferring data/information from one piece of software/application to another.
Database Software Database software allows data to be entered and stored in a structured way, which aids its retrieval.
Query A query is when you interrogate (search/sort/filter) a database to find some information. For example – a search to find all the “U” category films because a parent wants a suitable film for a children's party.
Report The output from a database in which the results are presented in a way that is controlled by the user (formatted i.e. tables/graphs/grouping/statistical summary/ results of searches)
Hyperlinks An area of a web page usually a section of text or an image that contains a link to another location on the web OR a connection to another related page.
Frame A frame is a section of a web page in which semi permanent activities can take place.
