| Identify four of the rights of individuals under the Data Protection Act (1998) | The right to subject access The right to prevent processing likely to cause damage or distress The right to prevent processing for the purposes of direct marketing Rights in relation to automated decision making |
| Identify three controls that can be placed on passwords and, for each, give an example of how it can enable the password to remain effective | A minimum number of characters could be applied and this would mean that anyone trying to hack would be unsuccessful unless they knew the minimum number of characters. A combination of numbers and letters could be used, as this increases the possibilities which the password could be and makes it more difficult for them. Changing passwords monthly could also make it more effective, as the hacker may have found out what the password was, but if it is changed before they can use it, then they wont gain access to the computer |
| Describe two physical methods that can prevent data being stolen | Putting security guards on the door of the computer rooms will act as a prevention method, as anyone unauthorized will not be able to gain access to the computers. Another physical method could be placing the computers in places where they cannot be physically seen by potential hackers is a sensible precaution |
