  1. 8 November 1923
    1. Order of events
      1. 3. 8 November 1923, Hitler and storm troopers burst into a meeting that Kahr and Lossow were holding at the local Beer Hall.
        1. 4. Hitler forced Kahr and Lossow to agree to rebel - and then let them go home.
          1. 5. 9 November 1923, Hitler and his Nazis went into Munich. Kahr had called the police: killed 16 Nazis. Hitler fled, but was arrested two days later.
        2. The Build Up
          1. 1. In the crisis of 1923, Hitler plotted with 2 nationalist - Kahr and Lossow - to take over Munich
            1. 2. Hitler collected his SA. But on 4 October 1923, Kahr and Lossow called off the rebellion
            2. Why did Hitler attempt it?
              1. Copy Mussolini - Italian fascist leader - who came to power in 1922 by marching on Rome.
                1. The Nazi party had 55,000 members and was stronger than ever before.
                  1. The Weimar Republic was about to collapse.
                    1. Weimar had called off the general strike. Every German nationalist was furious
                      1. Thought nationalist politicians in Bavaria would help.
                        1. Would lose control of huge army of storm troopers if they had no purpose
                        2. Consequ- ensces
                          1. The Nazi party was banned & Hitler prevented from speaking until 1927
                            1. Hitler went to prison & wrote 'Mein Kampf'. Ideas became very well-known.
                              1. Hitler realised he would have to use CONSTITUTIONAL MEANS
