Resource summary
Multiplying cells
advantages of being multicellur
bigger - travel further - get nutrients in different ways - fewer things can eat and squash you
cell differentiation - one cell doing doing everything - different cells instead doing different jobs
specially adapted
more complex
speciallised organs- different shapes and behaviour adapted specially to their environment
specialised organ systems:
communication system = nervous sytem
cells with nutrients they need = circulatory sytem
exchange of substances = respiratory sytem
mitosis = new cells for growth and repair
cell reproduces itself by spilting - forming 2 identical offspring
1. DNA replicated
2. DNA coils into double armed chromosomes - arms are exact copies of each other - same DNA
3. chromosomes line up at center of the cell - divide as cell fibres pull them apart - 2 arms of each chromosome go to opposite poles
4. membranes form around each of the 2 different sets of chromosomes
5. cytoplasm divides - 2 new cells = same genetic material as original
