Resource summary
Complete and Incomplete combustion
Complete combustion is when there is excess oxygen while you are buying something
Incomplete combustion is when there is not enough oxygen when you burn things.
Because the fuel is not fully oxidised it causes CO to be made
You can't balance these equations unless you don't include the particulates
A hydrocarbon is a molecule that contains hydrogen and carbon. It always produces oxygen when reacted with something
Intermolucular bonds
They are when there is an attraction between molecules.
To turn a liquid into gas you need to break the intermolucular bond.
The actual bonds between the molecule aren't broken
The higher the melting point the stronger the intermolecular bonds
Turning a solid into a gas
For this to take place the intermolecular bonds have to weaken so that the molecules can move freely
The length of a molecule can affect this
The bigger the molecule the stronger the intermolecular bond.
How much the molecules are attracted towards each other
Size of the atoms involved
Surface area of molecules
