I learnt how to effective use an SLR
camera in a professional studio setup.
I learnt how to adjust the stutter
speed to match the flash of the 3
point lighting setup.
This is a skill I developed when I
compare my Prelim product to my
final product
For my prelim product I used my
phone to take the image just in a
room rather then studio.
Final Product
On my Final product I included various different images
on my magazine pages including different image shots,
like extreme close ups and long shots
On my prelim product I only used one image
that was just a close up. This showed no skill.
On the contents the image is slightly flatted
also, this is not professional practice.
I learnt how to arrange the
layout of my front cover
effectively making certain
aspects of the front cover, like
the mast head, stand out.
Compared to my final product,
my prelim product looks very
weak, non of the images or text
stand out or look professional.
I also learnt how to edit text using drop shadows, adding
outer lines and using a variety of fronts from sources other
then what was already on the computer.
My Prelim Product only uses very simple
text that is found on photoshop already
pre installed, the text isn't very bold and
the text is only in black.
A skill i developed was the
ability to edit the settings on
photos to eliminate shadows
and brighten up images.
This skill was useful to
sharpen images up also.
On my prelim I didn't spend anytime
editing my images so they were put on
the cover and contents as i took them.
The image I used was too dark so could
have done with being brightened.
I also learnt how to effectively
cut out certain parts of images to
delete the background so that
the images and text could be
layered effectively so that the
spaces of the images werent not
lost
On my prelim product it is
obvious that I have not cut out
any images meaning that some
of the text overlaps over the
image.
Research and Planning
Genre Research
For my Genre research I researched into the Indie Genre, this
allowed me to know what to include in my magazine (like the
kind in models and there fashion) and how to design it (using
different fonts).
For my prelim product I did no genre research so
didnt know what to include in the magazien and
what images to use
Textual Analysis
For my textual analysis I analyzed a professional product, of a music magazine,
to see the different feature of a real magazine so I could
recreate a professional looking magazine.
For my prelim product I did not analys a real
college magazine to know the features I needed
to include to make a proffessional product.
Institutional Research
For my institutional research I looked into real producers of magazines to
see if i could fit my magazine into a portfolio of a realt magazine producer.
This helped me to think about the audience for my magazine and how my
magazine would fit into a feal instiution. It also help me think about what I
needed to include in my magazine.
For my preliminary product I did not do any instiutional
reseach meaning my prelim product would not be as
proffessional as my final product
Magazine Content Research
I also researched into the contents of a proffessional Indie music
magazine. This allowed me to know the features and layout of an Indie
Music Magazine i needed to include in my final product to make an
proffessional product.
I did not look through a real proffessional college magazine
to know what features to include in my prelim product.
