There is a struggle for survival due to competition between species (e.g. for food or for space)
The indivual's that survive reproduce and pass on their favourable characteristic to their offspring
Over generations adn generations of offsrping, two different species will arise that will not be able to reproduce to form fertile offsrping
Finches
He observed over 13 species off of the Galapagos Islands
He noticed beak variations between the finches which he thought were due to them adapting to their food
E.g. finches with hard beaks ate seeds that thy had to crack open with their beaks
