- 1What is an Input device?An Input device is a piece of computer equipment designed to control signals and provide data to the PC. eg. Keyboard, mouse, digital cameras.
- 2What is a output device?An output device is any device used to send data from a computer to another device or user. Most computer data output that is meant for humans is in the form of audio or video. eg. Monitor, Printers, projector.
- 3What is a storage device?A storage device is a piece of computer equipment used to store information. eg. Flash drive, USB Stick, DVD or CD.
- 4What is the purpose of the Power Supply?A Power supply converts power from the outlet into usable power which is then transferred into to other parts of the computer case.
- 5What is the purpose of the Computer Case?The computer case holds and stores all parts of the computer.
- 6What is the purpose of the Motherboard?A Motherboard is a printed circuit board containing the principal components of a computer - (it sends messages to all of the components inside the computer.)
- 7What is the purpose of the Processor?The Processor acts as the brain for the computer - it runs programs and sends and receives signals.
- 8What is the purpose of the RAM?RAM (or random access memory) is the computer's short term memory that can be accessed quickly, however when the computer is turned off, the RAM loses its data.
- 9What is the purpose of ROM?ROM (Read-only Memory) stores a program used to boot up the computer. This is called the bootstrap loader.
- 10What is the purpose of the Hard Drive?The Hard Drive is where all the permanent and important data is stored on the computer, such as documents, pictures, programs etc.
- 11What is a repetitive strain injury (RSI) and what causes them?Repetitive strain injury tends to be damage to the fingers and wrists and is caused by repeated movements over a long period of time. Often associated with people who use the PC a lot.
- 12What is the cause of back injuries when using a computer?Back Problems are due to poor posture or sitting in an awkward position when using the computer for a prolonged period of time.
- 13What is eye strain and what is the cause?Eye Strain is caused by staring at a (computer) screen for a long time - particularly in poor light or a flickering screen. It is often associated with people who work on a computer.
- 14By law, what do employers have to provide for their employees? (in regards to working with computers)By law, employers have to: Have tillable screens, anti- glare screen filters, adjustable chairs, foot supports, suitable lighting and the work spaces must not be cramped.
- 15What is the purpose of Binary?Computers communicate, store and share data using 1's and 0's.
- 16How many bits are in a Binary number?The maximum number of bits in a Binary code is 8.
- 17How do you convert from Binary to Denary.
