- 6What is the purpose of the motherboard?The motherboard is like your central nervous system. It sends messages to all of the components inside the computer like your nerves send signals to different parts of your body.
- 7What is the purpose of the Processor?The processor is like your brain, it’s where all the processes are carried out (like thoughts in your head.)
- 8What is the purpose of the RAM?Random Access Memory (RAM) is where the computer stores the current task that is being carried out. This is like your short term memory when you are thinking about what you are about to say of have just eaten.
- 9What is the purpose of ROM?Stores a program used to boot up the computer. This is called the bootstrap loader.
- 10What is the purpose of the Hard Drive?The hard drive is where all of your documents, pictures, programmes etc. are stored on the computer, similar to all of the long term memories in your brain.
- 11What is a repetitive strain injury (RSI) and what causes them?Usually damage to the fingers and wrists caused by
repeated movements over a long period of time. - 12What is the cause of back injuries when using a computer?Usually due to poor posture or sitting in an awkward
position when using a computer. - 13What is eye strain and what is the cause?Usually caused by staring at a computer screen for a
long time. Particularly in poor light, in glare or with a
flickering screen. - 14By law, what do employers have to provide for their employees? (in regards to working with computers)It is now the law that any business makes sure the following are in place for its employees: tiltable screens

adjustable chairs
foot supports
suitable lighting
