The exposition and recapitulation have a well-defined structure, bridge passage, second subject, closing section and codetta/coda.
Points to note are:
- There is the standard exposition repeat common in works of Mozart.
- The recapitulation is very regular. - 3Texture: Mozart- Homophonic (tune and accompaniment) where the melody is dominating.
- Thin two-part piano texture with mostly one note played at a time.
- Very occasional chords.
- Only one instance of imitation (in codetta/coda).
- Broken-chord accompaniment patterns (opening bars) in the left hand are used to accompany and a dominant pedal combined with Alberti bass (bar 71). - 4Tonality: MozartBb Major.
- In the exposition, the music modulates to the dominant (F major) and remains in F major until the end of the codetta.
- The development commences in F major, but is immediately moved on (through keys such as F minor and G minor).
- The recapitulation, which remains in Bb major. - 5Harmony: Mozart- Functional and diatonic: mostly root and 1st inversion chords.
- Many cadential 6/4 passages.
- Some 2nd inversion chords; dominant 7th chords and circle of 5ths.
- Use of the augmented 6th chord.
- Many cadences giving periodic structure and defining tonality.
- Tonic and dominant pedals.
- Inverted pedals.
- Many suspensions. - 6Melody: Mozart- The first and second subjects have their own defined melody.
- Many cadences.
- Periodic (antecedent-consequent) phrasing.
- Triadic themes.
- Passing chromaticism.
- Decorated by appoggiaturas, cadential trills, mordents.
- Phrases more decorated when repeated. - 7Rhythm/Metre: MozartVaried, both in melody and accompaniment.
Some syncopation in development (bar 73).
Common time - no change in the course of the music. - 8Circumstances of first performance/Genre: MozartUnknown, but given by the composer.
