  1. 1What is an atom?An atom is a particle of matter that uniquely defines chemical elements. An atom consists of a central nucleus that is usually surrendered by one or more electrons. Each electron is negatively charged. The nucleus is positively charged, and contains one or more relatively heavy particles known as protons and neutrons.

  2. 2What is an element? In chemistry and physics an element is a substance that cannot be broken down into simpler components by any non-nuclear chemical reaction. An element is uniquely determined by the number of protons in the nuclei of the atoms.

  3. 3What does matter?Matter is defined as anything that occupies space and has mass. Matter is all around us. Solids and liquids are more obviously matter: We can see that they take up space, and their weight tells us that they have mass. But gases also matter; if gases did not take up space, a balloon would not inflate (increase its volume) when filled with gas.
  4. 4There are 2 categories of pure substances:ELEMENTS: AN ELEMENT IS THE SIMPLEST FORM OF MATTER. Atoms are elements. We can't break an element with physical or chemical mean.
COMPOUNDS: ARE CHEMICAL COMBINATIONS OF ATOMS. Those atoms are combined in fixed ratios - molecules made up of different elements are compounds. The elements in compounds are held together by chemical bonds. A chemical bond is a force of attraction between atoms or ions that share or transfer valence electrons.
  5. 5How do atoms convert into molecules?Atoms form chemical bonds with other atoms when there's an electrostatic attraction between them. This attraction results from the properties and characteristics of the atoms' outermost electrons, which are known as valence electrons. -Wonderpolis.org
  6. 6What is a mixture?Mixtures:A MIXTURE IS A SUBSTANCE THAT CONTAINS TWO OR MORE DIFFERENT PURE SUBSTANCES THAT ARE NOT CHEMICALLY COMBINED.
In other words: A mixture is a physical blend of two or more components, each of which retains its own identity and properties in the mixture
ITS COMPONENTS CAN BE SEPARATED BY PHYSICAL MEANS (e.g: Evaporation, filtration, distillation…)
  7. 7Categories of Mixtures:HETEROGENOUS
    HOMOGENOUS
