- 1What are Registers ?Temporary memory located in the CPU, Used during the FDE cycle
Used during the execution of instructions - 2ALU – Arithmetic Logic Unit :Responsible for calculations and logic Operations
Stores data in the Accumulator Register
Acts as Conduit for input & Output - 3What does it mean by Conduit for input & Output :Data Keyboard -> CPU sent through Data Bus
CPU stores data in the Accumulator (ACC) : So CPU always knows where to retrieve this data from
True For Both ways ( ⇌ ) - 4MU – Memory Unit :Responsible for managing the fetching & storing of data into RAM
- 5What does MU manageRunning Programs
Data Currently in Use
Currently running Operating System
Data Must Be Inside RAM in order to be Processed - 6CU – Control Unit :Manages the execution of machine code instructions
Sorts out Control signals sent via a Control Bus
Synchronizes instructions by using the Processor's internal clock - 7What is the FDE Cycle :Fetch – Decode – Execute
- 8What is the process called when further data is needed for an instruction to be executedDouble Fetch
- 9Explain the process of a Double FetchIf the data is too big to store in one address,
The CIR fetches the second part of the operand and merges It with the first half before finally executing the instruction ; - 10What is a Jump CommandHow the CPU handles iteration, selection & Procedures
- 11Explain the process of Jump command :The contents of the PC is changed so that the new instruction is fetched. This occurs normally as a result of a condition
- 12Explain the Process of the FDE Cycle :The PC is incremented by one and fetches the instruction to be executed & us stored in the MAR. Then the MDR fetches the MAR. Simultaneously, the PC is incremented by one and next instruction is fetched. The data in the MDR is then copied into the CIR. The instruction is then decoded & executed.
