  1. 1What are the three types of rays that Ruthorford discovered?Alpha (alpha particles), Beta (Electrons), and Gamma Rays (EMR).
  2. 2What did Ruthorford believe the atomic model was like? The "Plum pudding" model. Where there was no space between electrons, everything was filled up with very "light" stuff that can easily be passed through and it had tiny electrons just stuck inside scattered throughout.
  3. 3What happened during the ruthorford gold foil experiment? He shot alpha particles through gold foil expecting it to just pass right through but instead, only some of the passed through and some got slightly deflected and some got completely deflected. This was because the alpha particles were either missing the nucleus or hitting it which caused deflection.
  4. 4What is the atom model ruthorford made after his gold foil experiment?Mostly empty space with just the hard nucleus in the middle, while electrons "stay" in the same spot randomly scattered.
  5. 5How is a bright line spectra produced? When you "excite" electrons they move up a level of energy, and when they go back down to "stabilize" themselves, they emit energy in the form of light (a wavelength). Only certain frequencies/wavelengths of EMR is emitted.
  6. 6True or False: Energy levels are not equally spaced.True, they are indeed not always equally spaced.
  7. 7When an electron moves down 1 energy level, it (gains/loses) a ________.It loses a photon when it moves down an energy level. That photon it emits shows as light.
  8. 8Are energy levels always positive, always negative, or can be either?Energy levels are always negative.
  9. 9What does each energy level represent? The amount needed to...?ionize an atom.
  10. 10Energy levels n=1,n=2,n=3 allow how many electrons each?2 electrons for n=1, 8 for n=2 and 3
  11. 11What are the 4 weaknesses of Bohr's model?1) It only explained the spectra of hydrogen and not the other elements.
    2) It did not explain why certain orbits are allowed.
    3) Does not explain why spectra lines split into many lines in a magnetic field.
    4) Does not explain the intensity of spectral lines.
  12. 12What are you allowed to use and not allowed to use when dealing with a hypothetical atom? You're allowed to use the formula, but not the constant.
  13. 13—
