- 1Factors effecting PC performance-Clock Speed: The number of sequential instructions a core on a CPU can execute in a second.
-Cores: The number of independent execution units in the CPU.
-Cache Memory: small amounts of memory on the CPU holding recently used instructions. - 2RegistersTiny amounts of extremely fast memory on board the CPU used to carry out specific tasks.
- 3CacheSmall amounts of very fast memory on-board on near the CPU used to store copies of instructions and data recently used to help speed up processing
- 4RAMLarge amounts of fast “Main Memory” used to temporarily hold
-O/S
-Programs
-Data
Currently being used by the CPU - 5Hard DiskHuge amounts of slow storage
When RAM is full the processor has no choice but to use some of the hard disk space to temporarily store data and instructions - 6FragmentationOnce you start modifying the files in the hard drive, the files become larger. This means they do not fit in their original gap and need to be moved to the end of the hard drive. This leaves gaps which takes up more space in the hard drive.
