collison theory
Fichas del conjunto (10)
- 1Three things which increase collisions?1) HIGHER TEMPERATURE
2) HIGHER PRESSURE
3) LARGER SURFACE AREA - 2more collisions increases?Rate of reaction
- 3Why does an increased temperature cause more collisions? As temperature is increased particles move quicker so they collide more often.
- 4Why does an increased pressure increase collisions?A higher pressure causes particles to be more crowded together so they will collide more often.
- 5What is the minimum amount of energy needed by particles to react known as?Activation energy
- 6What is a catalyst? Is a substance that speeds up a reaction, with out being changed or used up in reaction.
- 7Why does a larger surface area increase collisions?A larger surface area means particles are more exposed to other reactant therefore there are more collisions.
- 8What is a solid catalyst?Gives reactant particles surface to stick to , increases successful collisions.
- 9Advantage of catalysts?Work at lower temperature = less energy used in reaction = saves money
- 10Disadvantage of catalysts? Can be poisoned by impurities (sulphur impurities poison iron catalysts in Haber process)
