- 5what is the procedure to follow standard precautions?hands washed w/ soap and water or rubbed w/ alcohol based sanitizer before donning gloves. gloves should fit well. gloves worn when handling specimens. do not touch contaminated areas w/ clean gloves.remove gloves after touching anything such as telephone, doorknobs etc gloves changed between pt/ hands cleaned after removing gloves. when engaging w/ a pt and chance of blood is splattered a full face shield must be worn and /or goggles.
