- 1, COMMAUSE
Commas are used to separate items in a list or more.
Commas to separate independent clauses when they are joined by the following conjunctions: and, or, for, nor, so,but and yet.
Example:
She bought two carrots, one pineapple, and six bananas.
They bought the house, but they still need to buy a new car. - 2: THE COLONUSE
Before a list that is introduced by a completed sentenced.
To introduced the effect, or logical consequense of an action.
Before a quotation.
After the saludation in business letter or memo.
To separate chapter and verse in scripture.
To separates hours from minutes.

The semicolon has three primary functions:
I) To combine two closely related complete sentences (independent clauses) which are not joined by a conjunction.
2) To separate complete sentences (independent clauses) that are joined by a conjunctive adverb.
3) To separate items in a list when commas alone would be confusing. - 7EXAMPLESMy sister got a dog; I got a cat.
