- 1If you’re going to take an airplane up which hadn’t been flying for extended periods, it’s vitally important to sump sample all drains then add fuel (if needed) and wait how long before sampling again?AC00-34A says settling time for avgas is 15 minutes per foot of tank depth. Most GA range from 7 to 22 inches so about a minute 15 seconds per inch so between 9 and 28 minutes. Be alert for expectation bias in samples. Try to Change tanks once on the ground (Piper).
