Comparatives
We use comparatives to compare two nouns
We can divide comparatives in two groups
Group 1:
Adjectives that we add -er.
Group 2:
Adjetives that we add the word "More"
Rule 1: Add -er to adjectives that have one syllable.
Example 1.
If the adjective small has one syllable, then we add -er. So we have smaller.
My car is smaller than your car
Example 2:
Tall --> Taller
Bob is taller than Mike
Example 3:
Fast --> Faster
Max is Faster than Buddy
Rule 2:
If we have an adjective of one syllable, also this adjective ends in c-v-c, then we double de consonant and add er.
Example 1:
Big --> bigger
Example 2:
Hot --> hotter
My dad's bike is bigger than my bike
Your soup is hotter than my soup
Rule 3:
If the adjective ends in "y", then we delete "y" and add -ier.
Pretty -->prettier
Lazy --> lazier
Heavy --> heavier
Mary is prettier than Jane
My neighbor's cat is lazier than my cat
That box is heavier than this box
We use "more" with adjectives that have two or more syllables
Example 1:
Handsome --> More handsome
My english teacher is more handsome than my math teacher.
Example 2:
Delicious --> More delecious.
Hamburger is more delicious than pizza
Example 3:
Hospitable --> More hospitable
My house is more hospitable than this hotel
