hardware
- motherboard
- The Motherboard itself is a printed circuit board that allows the CPU, RAM, and all other computer hardware components to communicate with each other. There are huge variations in Motherboards from design, cases, power supply, size (Form Factor) and compatibility.
- network card
- A network card is a device that allows a computer to connect to a network. Without one, a computer would not be able to connect to the Internet (through cables or wirelessly) An example of a network card is TP-LINK Gigabit NIC
- Graphics card
- Required to display graphics on a monitor. Plugs into expansion slot on a motherboard. Known as a video card or display adapter.
- Processor
- A machine that processes something A central processing unit (CPU) is the electronic circuitry within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetic, logical, control and input/output (I/O) operations specified by the instructions..
- Hard Drive
- A disk drive used to read from and write to a hard disk. The hard drive is what stores all your data. It houses the hard disk, where all your files and folders are physically located. A typical hard drive is only slightly larger than your hand, yet can hold over 100 GB of data. The data is stored on a stack of disks that are mounted inside a solid encasement. These disks spin extremely fast (typically at either 5400 or 7200 RPM) so that data can be accessed immediately from anywhere on the drive. The data is stored on the hard drive magnetically, so it stays on the drive even after the power supply is turned off.
- RAM
- Capacity is measured in bites, usually Gigabytes. Known to be volatile ,switch the computer off and it empties. Known to be a working memory.
- ROM
- Once data has been written onto a ROM chip, it cannot be removed and can only be read. Unlike main memory (RAM), ROM retains its contents even when the computer is turned off. ROM is referred to as being nonvolatile, whereas RAM is volatile. ... A variation of a ROM is a PROM (programmable read-only memory).

software
- Operating system
- The low-level software that supports a computer's basic functions, such as scheduling tasks and controlling peripherals.
