1. Hardin: Tragedy of the Commons: Must legislate & regulate overpopul.

   • To decrease pollution; more people = more products being made = ince. pollution
   • Bc we're using earth resources

2. Population

   • Increasing geometrically & exponentially; increasing at an ever increasing rate
     • Industrial Revolution
     • Poor countries set to double popul. Affluent countries set to incre. slightly
     • China set to stay the same bc 1 child policy
   • #1 Way to Decrease Popul. = Educating Women; edu. women get jobs outside of home and don't want many children bc they cant take care properly, plus they can then afford birth control

3. Overpopulation

   • 2 Determinants: Avg. Lifespan & Avg. # of Children

4. Problems

   • Pollution
     • Cars, factories, Trash, Energy
     • Evidence: see it (LA Smog), acid rain, mercury (Brain Damage) Incr. in Fish, Ozone decr.
   • Global Warming
     • Rising Sea Levels: threaten Big/ Coast Cities
     • Incr. Hurricane Severity
   • Depletion of Natural Resources
     • Deforestation
   • Solution: Clean Energy, tax dirty energy, decrease population, increase efficiency and tech.
   • Positive Feedback Loop (Ex. Ice Cap melt and albedo )
