   • differences between groups will be environmentally caused
     • Differences within-group will be genetic

4. Stereotypes threaten intelligence

   • If a person belongs to a stereotype, they might worry that their performance will confirm the stereotype
     • This leads black americans to underperfrom on IQ tests
       • Girl Students performance undermined becuase of having to write their sex on the front of the exam paper
