1.1 System Architecture
MHz
- A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (1, 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64) can be manipulated at least one million times per second.
GHz
- One GHz represents 1 billion cycles per second. The speed of microprocessors, called the clock speed, often is measured in gigahertz.
Instruction
- single operation of a processor defined by the processor instruction set. The size or length of an instruction varies widely, from as little as 4-bits in some microcontrollers to many as multiples of a bytes in some very long instruction word
Execute
- Execution in computer and software engineering is the process by which a computer or a virtual machine performs the instructions of a computer program. The instructions in the program trigger sequences of simple actions on the executing machine.
Cache
- To store data locally in order to speed up subsequent retrievals. Pronounced "cash." See Web cache and browser cache
