Object-Oriented Programming
Instantiation
- Creating new object from class definition
- Memory is allocated for object fields
- Happens via constructor - special method which is called when object is created
Class
- Characteristics
- Behaviors
- Property/Attribute fields
Encapsulation
- combining a class with procedures and functions that manipulate it to form new data types
- Public methods
- Private data methods
- Interaction Interface
- Public methods
- combining a class with procedures and functions that manipulate it to form new data types
Object
- Constructor
- Implicit
- Explicit
- Reference to object assigned to reference variable of class type
- Constructor
Inheritance
- Define an object
- Making hierarchy
- Descendants inheriting access to ancestor's code and data
Association Aggregation
- Two objects related to each other. Own lifecycle.
- Aggregation: Special form form association where object has ownership of child object
Composition Aggregation
- Specialized form of aggregation where a child object has no independent lifecycle. Parent connected to child
- Sprite-Body-Arm
Polymorphism
- Giving an action one name that is shared up and down object hierarchy.
- Each object in hierarchy implementing the action in a way appropriate to itself.
Overriding
- Enables child class to provide different implementation method
- Same name, signature,and parameters
- Handles datatypes through uniform interface
- Generic method could be defined in parent class while child class provides specific implementation
