1. computer components

   • CPU
     • processes instructions
   • memory (RAM & ROM)
     • stores data on programs running on the computer
   • motherboard
     • connects components together so they can comunicate
   • network card
     • connects devices to a network so you can access internet
   • graphics card
     • displays and renders images
   • secondary storage
     • stores data and files for the computer long term

2. von neumann architecture

   • MAR
     • memory address register
       • small register that holds the address of the instructions
   • MDR
     • memory data register
   • ALU
     • arithmetic logic unit
       • arithmetic is simple maths
       • does all the maths and calculations
       • logic is comparing things and asking questions
   • control unit
     • tells other parts of the CPU what to do
   • busses
   • memory-RAM
     • random access memory-stores instructions and data that will be used by the CPU
   • accumulator
     • small amount of memory to remember answers from previous calculations

3. CPU & fetch decode and execute cycle

   • the way that the CPU processes instructions
