1. Types of Packets

   • Hello Packets
     • Check to be sure neibors are still valid
     • Dynamically learn and discover other routers
   • Update Packets
     • Sends incremental Routing updates
   • Query Packets
     • Checks with neighbors about routing info
   • Reply Packet
     • THis is the responce to Queries
   • ACK Packets
     • Own IP protocol
       • Protocol no 88
       • No Windowing or TCP Ack

2. Neighbor Relationships

   • Multicast to 224.0.0.10
   • Hellos are sent on links greater than a T1
     • This packet also carries the "K" Values
     • TI and GREATER - 5 seconds
     • SLOWER - 60 seconds
   • IGP
     • Create you own AS number because it is IGP
   • Dead Timers
     • Route is dead if no EIGRP packets are received with hold interval
       • Hold Timer Value - Three times the Hold Time
       • SHOW IP EIGRP NEIGHBOR
   • Hello and Hold Timers do not have to match
     • K Timers have to match
     • AS numbers have to match
