About Routing and Routing Protocols
GoConqr OriginalWhat this unit covers
The resources here follow the usual path of a Cisco-style routing course. They start with connected and static routes, move on to dynamic protocols, and end with more advanced topics such as BGP and redistribution. You will find flashcards, mind maps, quizzes and notes, all made by GoConqr users.
Where to start
If routing is fairly new to you, begin with the mind maps on static routing, such as the one titled Chapter 6: Static Routing, and the flashcards on Administrative Distance. The notes on IPv4 routing protocols and the Nexus chapters on connected routes show how a device builds its routing table.
Then move to link-state routing. The flashcard deck E2_8 OSPF explains how OSPF was developed as a replacement for RIP. Single-Area OSPF 1 and the OSPF mind map cover link types and packet types such as Hello and Link State Request. For deeper work, try OSPFv3, OSPF LSA Types and the note on the LSA general header.
EIGRP, BGP and beyond
The deck E3_8 EIGRP Troubleshooting looks at route summarisation and load balancing. For BGP, there are several mind maps, a deck called BGPv4 - RFC 4271 that is still in progress, and a quiz called CCIE-BGP. Notes on redistribution and on PBR and NTP suit CCNP candidates.
Using quizzes and maps together
- Read a mind map to get the shape of a topic.
- Take a quiz on the same topic, such as CCNA2 or DIKTA ICND2 Ch 17.
- Note what you got wrong and check it against the flashcards.
- Return to the quiz a few days later.
Practice papers such as CCNP Route V6 Final Exam suit the end of your revision, once the protocols feel familiar.
Where it fits
This unit sits in the Switching, Routing and WANs strand of Networks and telecommunications. Teachers can set a quiz or share a deck with a class. Choose one topic today and see how far a single quiz takes you.
Frequently asked questions
Which resource should I open first?
If you are new to the topic, start with a static routing mind map, then the Administrative Distance flashcards. Once those make sense, move to the E2_8 OSPF deck and the OSPF mind map, and take a quiz such as CCNA2 to check what has stuck.
Which exams do these resources relate to?
The listed resources mention CCNA, CCNP and ICND2. You will find quizzes such as DIKTA ICND2 Ch 17, CCNP CH4 and CCNP Route V6 Final Exam, plus CCNA lab notes. They suit university students and professional candidates.
What do the mind maps cover?
There are more than 170 mind maps. They cover static and dynamic routing, OSPF link and packet types, EIGRP, BGP, RIP, HSRP, multicast and routing authentication. They work well as a quick overview before you take a quiz or read the longer notes.
Are the resources free to use?
Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own quizzes, maps, flashcards and notes.
Can teachers use these with a class?
Yes. Teachers can pick ready-made quizzes, such as the CCNA 2 v5.03 chapter quizzes, or flashcard decks on OSPF and EIGRP, and point students to them. Mind maps on static routing can also work as a quick recap at the start of a lesson.
What if I cannot find my topic?
Look at related resources first, as topics often overlap. OSPF material appears in decks, maps, notes and quizzes under different titles. If something is still missing, you can make your own flashcards, mind map or notes and build the set you need.
