1. Embedded systems

   • Computers built into other services
   • eg. dishwashers, washing machine
   • monitors and controls machinery to get a desired result.
   • easier to design, cheaper to produce and more efficient.

2. CPU

   • BRAINS of the computer.
   • processes all of the data and instructions that make the system work.
   • THREE MAIN TYPES
     • Control unit
       • executes program instructions by following fetch, decode, execute cycle. Is the flow of data inside and outside the CPU.
     • Arithmetic Logic Unit
       • completes calculations such as addition. Completes logic operations such as AND OR. Contains accumulator
     • Cache
       • very fast memory. Stores regularly used data so easily accessed by CPU. When the CPU requests data, checks cache first to see if its there.
