   • searching through network takes time
     • amount of time depends on length of path in the network
     • relationships farther apart in network takes longer than relationships close together

2. spreading activation

   • based on interconnected units that have relationships to each other
   • more active a concept, easier it is to be retrieved
   • priming
     • lexical decision task
       • if words are related in meaning, faster decisions are made

3. tip of the tongue

   • word finding difficulty
     • common with: low frequency terms, people's/places' names
   • occurs in SIGN LANGUAGE
