   • stands for Hypertext markup language
   • Describes the structue of a web page

2. Elements

   • HTML consists on a series of elements
     • elements tell browser how to display the content

3. What is HTML

   • HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language
   • Describes the structure of a web page

4. Elements

   • HTML consists of many elements
   • the elements tell the browser how to display the content
   • HTML elements are represented by tags
     • they label content such as "title", "heading", Paragraph and so on
     • Browsers do not contain HTML tags, instead they use them to render the content on a page

5. HTML tags

   • HTML tags will usually come in pairs : <p> and </p>
     • first tag is the start tag, the second tag being the end tag
     • you type your words in between the tags

   • The purpose of a web browser is to read HTML documents and display them
     • they don't display the tags, instead the HTML tags tell them how to display the document.
