1. Authentication

   • Ensuring only allowed/ authorised user can gain access
   • By example(usernames/ passwords)

2. Maintainable code

   • To allow other programmers to understand the code.
   • By example(comments,indentation,meaningful variable names.)

3. Verification

   • Checking whether data has been entered correctly
   • By example(double entry/visual check)

4. Validation

   • Checking whether input data should be allowed/ is sensible/ follows criteria
   • By example (goals cannot be less than 0)

5. Input sanitisation

   • Cleaning up input data / removing unwanted data
   • By example (removing special characters / preventing SQL injection)
