Ubiquitous Computing

  1. This means computing everywhere

  2. Processors can be embedded into lots of everyday objects

    • Pacemakers
      • Cat flaps and cat collars
    • Gps systems
    • Processors in clothes to monitor heart rate or to prevent them from being stolen
  3. The internet of objects is a concept that looks at the internet as a network of items. As more and more items get processors embedded into them, this creates a network of physical items.

  4. RFID chips allow processors to be embedded into everyday objects. They stand for radio frequency identification chips and they work similar to a bar code but they do not have to be scanned. For example a cat collar can have an RFID chip installed in it, this can be linked to a cat flap, When sensing the RFID chip the cat flap opens but for any other cat it will not. This gives owners a piece of mind as it means that foregin pests and unwanted pets will not be able to enter their house. But at the same time it means that their cat can come and go as it pleases.

  5. GPS and tracking systems can be very useful, people can find their way without the hassle of using a map. Furthermore, taxi companys can keep an eye on their customers at all times, this means that they can see who is on task and who is taking too many breaks. They can also check who is closestto a custmers which will mean more efficient service. In addition, managers will be able to see if their employees or customers are in any danger
