Computer Components
Fan - Cools the components that may get hot
RAM - Stores data while powered
CPU - Processes information
Motherboard - Connects all components
Power Supply - Supplies power to the components
Floppy Drive - reads and writes information from floppy drive
Optical Drive - Reads and writes data stored on compact disks
Hard Drive - Reads and writes data onto metal platters
Fetch - the instruction is understood from the memory to the CPU
- Decode - the instruction is understood by the CPU
- Execute - the instruction is carries out
- The information is fetched from the RAM.
- Decode - the instruction is understood by the CPU
1 Kilohertz - 1000 cycles per minute
- 1 megahertz - 1,000,000 cycles per minute
- 1 Gigahertz - 1,000,000,000 cycles per minute
RAM - Random Access Memory
- ROM - Read-only memory
- CPU - Central programming unit
- ROM - Read-only memory
ROM - Stores the instructions and data which is used when the computer 'boots up' whether or not it has power. It keeps the data whether or not it has power.
The difference between RAM and ROM is that RAM only contains the data and files only while powered but ROM contains the data whether or not it is powered. ROM is meant for permanent storage and RAM is meant for temporary storage.
