- monitor: monitors display the results of computer processing to the user. they can display characters as they are typed , video as it is played or can be used for watching CCTV images.
- keyboard :a keyboard has keys that are labelled with characters set out in a pattern.it is used to enter characters such as lertters , punctuaction , marks , numbers ans symbols . it can be used to enter commands into a computer or for typing letters , reports , memos , or entering data into spreadsheets or databases.
- hard disk drive (HDD) : hard disk drives use magnetic disks for storing software and data in files. the disks are circular and spin at high speeds while drive heads read and write the data which makes hard disks susceptible to dirt and damage if moved suddenly.Hard disks can store huge amounts of data.
- dvd drive : optical device uses optical media such as CD`s DVD`s to store software and data in files. blue-ray disks are large capacity optical disks and can store very large amounts of data. Data stored on CD-ROMS and DVD_ROMs can be read but cannot be altered . the files can be read , edited , re-written or deleted only if CD_R/RWs or DVD-R/RWs are used.
- mouse: a mouse is used to move a pointer on screen and has one or more buttons that are clicked to choose items from an on-screen menu and select items by clicking.

- laptops are portable because they are lighter then a desktop computer ,they can be powered by batteries , the keyboard and pointer device are built in instead of separate , the monitor is built in, optical storage devices are usually built in ,connection to a network and/ or the internet is usually wireless. laptops allow the user to be mobile but easily damaged while being moved and are easy to steal. typical uses of laptops by business include :office-based tasks such as word processing and dealing with emails while away from the office and when travelling , creating documents , editing bideo or audio creating presentations , instant messaging beteen emplyees and /or customers/ live web chat between employees and or customers.
- netbooks are: smaller and lighten then laptops . it is easier to carry or use while traveling on trains and aircraft. notebooks are portable because they can be powered by batteries. the keyboard any mouse are built into the notebook. the monitor is built in
