8. Definitions of rural areas according to location

   • Botswana: An agglomeration of more than 5,000 people and where 75% of inhabitants are enagaged in non-agricultural activities
   • Senegal: An agglomeration of more than 10,000 people
   • Japan: A settlement of more than 50,000 people, where at east 60% of houses are in the main built up area and at least 60% of the population work in manufactoring, trade and other business activities.
   • India: A settlement of at least 5,000 people, where more than 75% of the male population work in non-agricultural activities and with an average population density of at least 400 persons per square kilometre
   • Denmark: A coherent built-up area with at least 2,000 people and where the average distance between each building does not exceed 200m
