Motion
  1. What is Motion?
    1. Motion is the change in distance between one object and another.
      1. Reference point
        1. A reference point is either an object or place that is used to determine if an object is in motion.
          1. Reference points are usually stationary.
            1. Trees
              1. House/Buildings
          2. Isaac Newton
            1. Born in 1642 and passed in 1727
              1. Created the 3 Laws of Motion
                1. First Law of Motion (Law of Inertia)
                  1. States that objects will stay stationary unless external force is acted upon.
                    1. Inertia is the resistance of an object to change its state of motion
                    2. Second Law of Motion (Law of Acceleration)
                      1. Amount of force applied produces an objects acceleration and whole mass.
                        1. Force = Mass x Acceleration
                        2. Third Law of Motion (Law of Interaction)
                          1. "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." -Isaac Newton
                            1. Action + Reaction = Action-Reaction Pair
                        3. Measuring Distance
                          1. Scientists use the International System of Unit. Mainly using meters to measure the length (distance)
                            1. Speed Formula Speed = Distance / Time
                              1. Average Speed
                                1. To find the average speed, you will need to divide the total distance by the total time.
                                2. Instantaneous Speed
                                  1. The rate of an object moving with a given time.
                                  2. Velolcity
                                    1. The knowledge of the speed and direction of an object's motion.
                                      1. Used to describe speed
                                        1. Increase/Decrease
                                          1. Changes
                                            1. Change in DIrection
                                          2. The motion of an object can be graphed, with distance versus time.
                                            1. The slope is the steepness of the iine.
                                              1. Slope = Rise / Run
