electromagnetic spectrum

  1. all travel at the same speed through a vacum 3x10(8)

  2. radio waves -- microwaves -- Infrared -- visible light -- ultraviolet -- X Rays -- Gamma rays

    • Increasing Frequency --->>> <<<--- Increasing wave lenth
  3. Radio Waves uses: radio waves can be used to communicate infomation , radio waves have the lowest freqencies and shorter wave lenths

  4. micro waves: uses: used for heating food by directly transfering energy to water content in the food, also for satilite comuncation

    • Dangers: can directly heat body tissue therefore damage is done before pain is felt
  5. infrared: uses: used in heating devices and in thermal cameras which pick up heat traces

    • dangers: readily absorbed by our skin so can cause burns
  6. visible light: uses: used by humans to see objects

  7. Ultraviolet: uses: used in foresent lamps, disco 'black' lights and sterilising water. some insects can see ultraviolet part of the spectrum and use this to navigate

    • dangers: is responisble for skin cancers and can damage eyes. the sun is the main source of ultraviolet
  8. X Rays: used to examine the internal structures of the body in medical use. also used in radio astronomy

    • dangers: can produce cell mutation and cancer women are advised not to have a X rays during pregnacy
  9. Gamma Rays: uses: are used to treat certan types of cancer. they are also used for sterilising medical equipment and food products

    • Dangers: can cause cell mutations and cancer in the nuclear industry you have to where special clothing or a monitor to show how much radiation you are exposed to
  10. Run MilesIn Very Unpleasant eXtream Games

  11. Red -- Orange -- Yellow -- Green -- Blue -- Indigo -- Violet

    • Increasing Frequency ----> <--- increasing wavelenth
