1. ECONOMIC

   • large proportion of their population living in poverty
   • limited range of industries
   • lack infrastructure, knowledge and range of goods and services to trade on a global scale
   • high levels of debt

2. SOCIAL

   • no gender equality; females have less opportunities for education and working fields (collect water, work crops and prepare meals)
   • high birth rates; limitations to care for all children and provide for them
   • lack a strong legal system, and the wellbeing of their citizens can be affected
   • no developed education system and lack career options
   • no means to provide for citizens
   • history of colonisation; the process of setting up settlements in a region by people who are from a different place

3. ENVIRONMENTAL

   • lack food security
   • lack access to adequate housing
   • urben slums
   • lack access to; adequate roads, piped water, sewerage systems, electricity grids and telecommunication systems
