1. Schema is a unit of knowledge/cognitive structure

2. Through experience/interaction with the physical world the child's knowledge adapts

3. Schema can be extended via assimilation/aoccommodation

4. Terms

   • Adaptation
     • The idea that schemas become adapted to the child's environment
   • Assimilation
     • Adding info to an existing schema/applying a schema to a new situation
   • Accommodation
     • Forming a new schema/a schema has to change because incoming information conflicts with what is already known (disequilibrium)
   • Equilibrium
     • Cognitive harmony between what is already known and incoming information
