1. What is ICT ?

   • Information and Communication Technology
   • The use of technology for the input, processing, storage and transfer of data and the output of information.

2. What is a system?

   • Three basic stages
     • Input
     • Processing
     • Output

3. Input-Processing-Output

   • Data is entered via an input device such as a keyboard
   • Calculations, Queries and other operations are performed
   • The results of the processing are sent to an output device such as a monitor.

4. What is a ICT system?

   • Are those where the output from the system goes directly to a human being or into another ICT system.

5. Components of ICT system

   • People
     • No ICT system can work without people being involved.
     • They will be used in analysis, design, implementation and programmers.
   • Data
     • Data is raw facts and figures.
       • Data can be input by different input devices: Keyboard, Bar-Code reader, Scanner, Digital camera.
   • Procedures
     • For it to work effectively, procedures are important.
   • Software
     • Software packages are the programs that make the computer a useful tool by carrying out the processing.
   • Hardware
     • Storage space and processing power will be taken into account when choosing hardware.
   • Information
     • Final output is the information produced.
     • Information is data that has been processed into something meaningful.
