Anion Tests

Descripción

A method of learning the tests for anions, made by Emma of Class 11 - T. The blue boxes contain the name of the aqueous anion, the green boxes contain the test for the anion and the pink boxes contain the observation.

Anion Tests
  1. Nitrate
    1. Add dilute sodium hydroxide and a little aluminium powder
      1. Ammonia gas is produced. It turns moist red litmus paper blue
    2. Iodide
      1. Add dilute nitric acid (destroys and carbonate present) and then lead(II) nitrate solution
        1. A yellow precipitate of lead(II) iodide is formed
      2. Chloride
        1. Add dilute nitric acid (destroys any carbonate present) and then silver nitrate solution
          1. A white precipitate of silver chloride is formed
        2. Carbonate
          1. Add dilute hydrochloric acid
            1. Effervescence occurs and carbon dioxide gas is given off
          2. Sulphate
            1. Add dilute nitric acid (destroys any carbonate present) and then barium nitrate solution
              1. A white precipitate of barium sulfate is formed
