Components of a Computer

1. RAM - Random Access Memory

   • RAM is a fast temporary type of memory in which programs, applications and data are stored. Such as the operating system, applications and the graphical user interface (GUI)

2. ROM - Read Only Memory

   • ROM is a type of non-volatile memory, which means the data stored in it is not erased when the power is turned off. It stores critical programs such as the program that boots the computer.

3. CPU Fan

   • CPU fans ventilate the heat generated from the components, and actively cool the processor by bringing in cooler air before the heat damages the computer components.

4. PSU - Power Supply Unit

   • A power supply unit (PSU) converts AC to low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of a computer. Modern personal computers universally use a switched-mode power supply. Some power supplies have a manual selector for input voltage, while others automatically adapt to the supply voltage.

5. CPU - Central Processing Unit

   • A central processing unit (CPU) is the electronic circuitry within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer based on switches that are either on or off.

6. GPU - Graphics Processing Unit

   • GPUs are very efficient at manipulating computer graphics and image processing.

7. Heat Sink

   • A heat sink is an electronic device that incorporates either a fan or a peltier device to keep a hot component such as a processor cool.

8. Motherboard

   • The Motherboard itself is a printed circuit board that allows the CPU, RAM, and all other computer hardware components to communicate with each other. There are huge variations in Motherboards from design, cases, power supply, size (Form Factor) and compatibility.

9. Hard Drive

   • Storage is the hard drive's responsibility. Everything you keep on your computer is on a hard drive. Not just documents, pictures, music and videos. Your programs, your preferences, even your operating system.

10. Sound Card

    • The sound card enables you to be able to hear, record, and play back sounds. A sound card might improve a computer's sound quality, even when the computer has sound capabilities built into it with an integrated sound processor.
