Intelligence Models - Karsyn Kranc

  1. General Intelligence

    • This is an overall idea of how much intelligence an individual holds (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019).
      • Side note: General intelligence is made up of fluid and crystallized intelligence (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019).
  2. Fluid and Crystallized Intelligence

    • Fluid: the ability to think on the fly in crucial situations (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019).
      • Making good judgment of a situation quickly and percisly by obtaining the given information. This does no account for any prior knowledge but using the information provided to confidently solve a problem or situation (Perera, 2020).
        • Personally I am not as good at this type of intelligence. I am someone who likes to know all the information I can before hand and it is hard for me to pick up what I am being taught without clear explanation.
    • Crystallized: using prior knowledge in situations to accomplish a task or problem (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019).
      • Using previously learned skills to conqure to given situation. This is done by combining prior knowledge to help be more successful in the problem being solved (Perera, 2020)
        • I relate more to crystallized intelligence because I am always relating things back to something I have experienced before which helps me understand the situation or problem being solved more clearly.
  3. Multiple Intelligences

    • Another way to test one's intelligence not using an IQ test (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019).
  4. Triarchic Intelligence

    • Three aspects of intelligence that are portrayed in people differently (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019).
      • Analytical intelligence:
        • A technique used for problem-solving and decision-making. This is used highly in traditional schooling but also in everyday decision-making and problem-solving (Tigner & Tigner, 2000).
          • In personal experince, I think that I am very high in analytical intelligence because I have always done well naturally in school and problem solving situations. I enjoy doing puzzles of all kinds and solving problems that require critical thinking.
      • Creative intelligence:
        • Using knowledge from prior situations to make the best judgment of a new situation. This is used in situations with less structure and room for mistakes to be made (Tigner & tigner, 2000).
          • Often times I do this by recalling a similar situation I have experienced to better imagine the future situation. An example of this is the way I imagines college being, I would recall scenes from movies or stories I have heard from others and make my own image of what college would be like.
      • Practical Intelligence:
        • Knowing the right decision morally. Used by evaluating priorities and weighing out pros and cons in any situation. Can be detected in people who are known to make wise decisions (Tigner & Tigner, 2000).
          • Personally, I enjoyed researching this type of intelligence because I have always had interest in being a lawyer and have been told that I would be a good lawyer. When research I found that this is a common type of intelligence found in lawyers.
  5. Emotional Intelligence

    • Being able to identify and deal with emotions in yourself and others (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019).
